Customs officers stopped cocaine smuggling for 12 billion rubles

Employees of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) have detained the largest shipment of Latin American drugs worth more than 12 billion rubles this year. This was announced on July 16 by the press service of the department.

It is clarified that the Russian special services received information from foreign colleagues about the intention of a South American criminal group to organize the supply of cocaine to the Russian Federation.

During customs control, experts found drugs that were hidden in the cache of a container with bananas. According to the press service of the department, a total of 820 kg of cocaine was seized, the value of such a batch on the black market is more than 12 billion rubles.

"A criminal case has been opened under clause b of Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of narcotic drugs on an especially large scale")," the Federal Customs Service wrote on its Telegram channel.

According to the press service of the Federal Customs Service, the maximum penalty is life imprisonment. At the moment, law enforcement officers are carrying out investigative and operational measures.

On May 14, a shipment of cocaine worth 500 million rubles was detained in the port of St. Petersburg. It was clarified that the ship with illegal cargo arrived from Latin America, the weight of cocaine was 50 kg.
