- The Bolivian Ministry of Energy expressed hope for an early launch of the project with Rosatom
Regardless of who wins the upcoming presidential elections in Bolivia, the country intends to implement a lithium mining project in the Latin American country with the Russian Federation. This was reported to Izvestia by Freddy Gustavo Velasquez Robles, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy for Planning and Energy Development.
"I don't think that if an opposition representative comes to power, these contracts will be cancelled. In this case or under the next president, these contracts must be approved," the politician said.
The first round of the presidential elections in Bolivia will be held in August.
The agreement on the construction of a lithium carbonate plant in Bolivia by Rosatom's subsidiary Uranium One Group and the state-owned Bolivian company YLB was signed on September 11, 2024.
