Iodization of table salt is one of the most effective and safe methods of replenishing iodine deficiency in the body. This was announced on July 15 by Olga Yatsishina, a doctor of the highest category, an endocrinologist at the European Medical Center (EMC).

The expert noted that iodine is an essential structural component of thyroid hormones, which ensures the development and functioning of the body. According to Yatsishina, pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under two years of age are at risk of developing iodine deficiency diseases, in particular, in addition to all population groups.

"Salt iodization is the most economical and simplest approach to ensuring optimal iodine intake with food. <...> In addition, there is a lot of iodine in marine fish, especially in cod, hake, tuna and haddock, seafood (shrimp, mussels, squid), as well as in seaweed, such as kelp," the expert said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

Yatsishina recommended not to take iodine supplements on your own, as all iodine-containing supplements, as she emphasized, should be prescribed by a doctor after consultation.

On July 7, Gurgen Martirosyan, a urologist at SM Clinic, reported that vitamin D deficiency, which is a hormone-like compound that regulates body processes, can negatively affect metabolism and bone health, as well as lead to the development of urolithiasis.
