- Pistorius announced Germany's plans to buy Patriot air defense systems from the United States for Kiev
Germany will purchase two Patriot air defense missile systems from the United States to send them to Ukraine. This was announced on July 14 by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
"I suggested that Germany could purchase two infrared systems from the United States and transfer them directly to Ukraine. <...> Some technical, logistical, and financial issues remain unresolved, but all of them, it seems to us, are quite solvable for both sides, and that's why we will get to work quickly," — He said.
Pistorius stressed that he had managed to reach an agreement with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to resolve any lingering issues regarding this deal "quickly and quietly." He also added that it will take months for the delivery of the discussed Patriot systems.
On July 14, American leader Donald Trump announced that the United States and the European Union (EU) had reached an agreement on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. He stressed that Washington is considering the possibility of transferring 17 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Kiev.
