The doctor told about the dangers of long fishing
Fishing is a fairly long process, so its fans often sit with a fishing rod by the water, but this position can lead to swelling of the legs and varicose veins of the lower extremities (IBD), which is jokingly called "fishing varicose veins". About this on July 14, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Anastasia Malai, cardiologist at SM Clinic.
IBD is a chronic disease in which varicose veins of the subcutaneous veins occur. The cause of the disease is a violation of the normal venous blood flow, which causes swelling, heaviness, pain, itching, and sometimes seizures.
"Sitting with a fishing rod for hours without moving is a serious risk factor for varicose veins. <...> Modern research shows that with prolonged venous stasis, shear stress decreases. <...> This affects metabolism and contributes to inflammatory changes, thickening or thinning of the venous wall and the progression of the disease," explained the cardiologist.
As a result of IBD, according to Malai, lipodermatosclerosis, venous eczema and even trophic ulcers may appear.
The specialist gave recommendations on the treatment and prevention of "fisherman's varicose veins". She advises wearing compression jersey knee socks to maintain the veins and walking regularly.
Earlier, on June 19, Evgeny Latysh, a hunting and fishing specialist, said that only one fishing rod with one hook is allowed during spawning, and the use of nets is considered poaching and entails criminal liability.
