The media learned about the presence of US military advisers at the Taiwan exercises
Military advisers from the United States were present during Taiwan's annual Han Kuang army exercises. The Taipei Times (TT) newspaper learned about this on June 13 during a conversation with an informed person.
"Separately, a delegation of US military advisers led by former commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command and retired Army General Charles Flynn visited the Tamsui area to observe the exercises," one of the officials said on condition of anonymity.
The source said that during the visit, experts from the United States gave the local military "specific and constructive" recommendations. The members of the delegation also advised to eliminate weaknesses in defense and think about adjusting the priorities of the Taiwanese army in the course of "responding to the changing operational situation."
The article clarifies that this year's exercises have become the largest in the history of such events.
On June 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping, during telephone talks with American leader Donald Trump, advised the United States to be more careful with the Taiwan issue. The Chinese leader also noted that Washington and Beijing should strengthen cooperation in trade relations, military and diplomatic activities.
