- In Bashkiria, archaeologists of Moscow State University discovered Paleolithic drawings of a rare blue color
Students of the Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in Kapova Cave in the Southern Urals in Bashkortostan discovered drawings made in blue in Paleolithic cave sanctuaries, instead of the usual black, red and yellow.
"During the archaeological desk practice, students of the Faculty of History of Moscow State University revealed unexpected facts during the disassembly of materials from previous years from excavations in Kapovaya Cave (Southern Urals, Bashkiria)...> materials indicating the use of pale blue and sky-blue colors in the underground sanctuary of the Upper Paleolithic about 15-19 thousand years ago," the university announced on its official website on July 9.
The determination of the mineral composition of the blue paint, as noted by the Moscow State University, will begin after the completion of the analysis of archaeological finds.
The University emphasized that this find has the potential to globally change the way people think about life during the Upper Paleolithic period.
"A sharp collapse of the thesis about the strict predestination of the use of three colors in cave sanctuaries <... It radically changes the ideas that have been established over the past century, not only about the symbolism of the color of cave art, but also about the appearance and development of Paleolithic culture. The revealed facts <... They are, in fact, one of the most important discoveries of recent years, not only in the field of art history and visual aesthetics, but also in the behavioral foundations of complex human communities of the Late Pleistocene," said Vladislav Zhitenev, head of the South Ural Archaeological expedition, Associate Professor of the Department of Archaeology at the Historical Faculty of Moscow State University.
Italian Egyptologists found an ancient city under the Sphinx on July 10. The scan revealed the existence of an underground complex under the Giza plateau.
