In Germany, they announced an increase in spending on civil defense
The German authorities will increase spending on civil defense next year. This was announced on July 12 by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt during events on the occasion of national GO Day in the city of Rostock.
"During his visit, Dobrindt announced that the Federal Agency for Technical Assistance (THW) will receive 50% more funding next year than in 2024. The funding of the Federal Agency for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief will also be tripled," Tagesschau informs.
According to the official, the expansion of the GO also requires a rethink of Germany's approach to integrated defense.
It is specified that volunteers play a significant role in the system of protective measures in Germany. So, according to the Federal Office of Civil Defense (BBK), there are currently 1.8 million of them in Germany. At the same time, it is unclear whether people who volunteer in several GO organizations at the same time are counted twice.
In addition, during the visit, officials noted the lack of readiness of Germany for possible "crisis situations."
On July 6, it became known that in Germany, the number of companies operating in the military-industrial complex (MIC) has increased fivefold since 2017, from 70 to 340 military enterprises. According to experts, this growth is due to the crisis in the German automotive industry, which is why companies are refocusing on the military-industrial complex.
