- The Russian Foreign Ministry declared its commitment to a peaceful solution to the problems on the Korean Peninsula
Moscow and Pyongyang are committed to a peaceful solution to the problems on the Korean peninsula. This was stated on July 12 in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his North Korean counterpart Choi Song-hee.
"An interested exchange of views took place on the situation on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia. The mutual commitment to a political and diplomatic solution to the existing problems was confirmed," the message says.
It is noted that the parties emphasized their determination to jointly resist the hegemonic aspirations of non-regional players, leading to escalating tensions throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov stressed that the Russian Federation and the DPRK have almost complete convergence of approaches in the foreign policy sphere. He also recalled that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement concluded with the DPRK in 2024 reflects the allied nature of the two countries' relations. The head of the department clarified that the agreement lays down the principles of cooperation in the international arena.
