Russia and the DPRK plan to resume maritime communication between the two countries. This was announced on July 12 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee in Wonsan.

"It is planned to resume maritime communication," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

In addition, he stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un continue to keep in touch. According to him, the leaders regularly exchange messages, so personal contacts between the heads of state are possible in the future.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said on June 23 that new bilateral contacts were planned between Russia and the DPRK, including in connection with upcoming events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule.
