The media noted the lack of benefits for the EU in returning Kiev to its former borders.

The return of Ukraine to its former borders is unprofitable for the European Union (EU). This was announced on July 11 by journalist Reinhard Lauterbach in an article for the German newspaper Junge Welt.

"The European Union <...> is not interested in Ukraine returning the east and south, as this will increase the cost of reconstruction," the article says.

The journalist believes that the main problem for the EU is the ambiguity regarding the use of frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine. It is noted that Kiev and Washington are calling on the bloc to confiscate the funds, but this is a difficult process.

According to the publication, in the event of peace in Ukraine, the justification for freezing assets will disappear. Lauterbach expressed the opinion that the frozen assets can be returned to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
