The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has allowed Russians and Belarusians to reapply for neutral status, which were previously rejected. This was announced on July 11 in the press service of the organization.

It is noted that during the meeting of the FIG executive committee in Lausanne, the commission approved a revised version of the special rules.

"The new special rules include a number of important changes aimed at improving the system for evaluating the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes. <...> A transitional mechanism has been introduced that allows previously rejected applications to be resubmitted in accordance with the new regime," the publication says on the website.

It is specified that this innovation increases the fairness and transparency of the procedure.

In addition, the amended version clarified criteria such as an athlete's voluntary membership in government structures and active support for government policy, including public statements, interviews, and social media activity.

Earlier, on June 21, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced that athletes from Russia will be able to participate in international competitions in 31 sports. He called the inauguration of Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), an important factor for the future of Russian sports in the international arena.
