- Zakharova reminded Merz, who demanded compensation from the Russian Federation, about the crimes of the West
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who demanded that Russia pay 500 billion euros in compensation to Ukraine, forgets about the losses suffered by Russia from Western countries. So on July 11, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the statement of the head of Germany.
"I'm thinking, maybe it's time for us to calculate how much someone owes. We can start with the Western intervention of 1918-1922. They have repeatedly told about the crimes of the expeditionary forces of the Entente countries," Zakharova said.
She also noted the need to "balance the balance" for the Second World War and suggested that Russia be compensated for the liberation and restoration of European countries.
"Well, the collapse of the USSR didn't cost us cheap either. And considering that Western officials have long admitted that they had a hand in it, there is every reason to get a calculator," the Foreign Ministry representative wrote.
According to her, Merz may also take the initiative to cover the costs of restoring the masterpieces of the Dresden Gallery by Soviet specialists.
On July 8, Merz said that the possibilities to end the conflict in Ukraine diplomatically had been exhausted, and he added that Germany would continue to support Kiev.
On July 9, Zakharova said that the continued pumping of weapons into Ukraine does not contribute to the settlement of the conflict.
