The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern about the increased level of politicization and confrontation in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). This was announced on July 10 in the press service of the ministry following a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Chairman of the UN Human Rights Council Jurg Lauber.

It is specified that during the negotiations Vershinin and Lauber discussed the 59th session of the Council that has ended, the functioning of this human rights body in the context of the "liquidity crisis" and its possible transformations in the context of the implementation of the UN–80 initiative.

"Lauber was expressed concern about the increasing level of politicization and confrontation in the Council, as well as attempts by one group of states to use the HRC as a tool to achieve their geopolitical goals," the Russian Foreign Ministry's website says.

According to the ministry, the Russian side noted the importance of joint efforts to ensure that human rights become a factor contributing to rapprochement and strengthening mutual respect in international relations.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was replicating Kiev's lies and almost recklessly supporting the criminal regime in Ukraine. He demonstrates "political bias and short-sightedness," which are manifested in support of the Kiev regime, the ministry added.
