Guberniev noted the need to protect Russians abroad
Russia should help basketball player Daniil Kasatkin, who was detained in France at the request of the United States. Dmitry Guberniev, a sports commentator, shared this opinion with Izvestia on July 10.
He indicated that he was counting on Moscow's full support for the athlete and the intervention of the Russian Embassy in this matter.
"Anyway, there is a presumption of innocence, maybe it's a blatant lie and slander. Therefore, I also want to express the hope that the investigation will be objective. And, of course, we should not let our people abroad be offended," Guberniev said.
The commentator was also surprised by Kasatkin's ignorance of the problems with United States law enforcement and the basketball player's decision to travel to France, where he could be extradited.
On July 9, it became known that Kasatkin was detained in France on June 21 on suspicion that he was a member of a hacker network operating with the help of extortion programs. The arrest took place at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, where the athlete arrived with his fiancee. It is noted that Kasatkin does not admit guilt.
According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the Russian Embassy in Paris is dealing with the issue of the basketball player's detention. Later, his lawyer, Vladimir Sarukhanov, said that the athlete is currently in isolation.
