OPEC bans five news organizations from participating in oil conference
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has excluded five of the world's leading news organizations from coverage of a large-scale oil conference in Vienna. This was reported on July 10 by The Business Times (BT) newspaper.
"OPEC has not accredited Bloomberg News, despite repeated requests, and has not provided any explanation for its decision. The New York Times, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and Reuters were also excluded," the publication noted.
It is clarified that most OPEC meetings are now held online, which has deprived journalists of the opportunity to ask questions to ministers before and after making production decisions.
"Once again, we are very disappointed that OPEC is excluding journalists. <...> We continue to strongly advocate that OPEC allow journalists from relevant global news agencies to attend its events," a Bloomberg News representative said.
Earlier, on June 25, US President Donald Trump accused the American CNN channel and The New York Times (NYT) newspaper of discrediting US strikes on Iran and publishing false information.
