Kenyan President Ruto has launched a crackdown on anti-government demonstrators
Kenyan President William Ruto has said he will fight participants in anti-government demonstrations that are killing people and destroying the country's infrastructure. This was reported on July 9 by the Daily Nation newspaper.
In his address, Ruto called for the responsibility of the organizers of the demonstrations and those who sponsor protests and riots in the country.
"We will use all available means to stabilize the situation in the country. We cannot allow chaos and anarchy to destroy the development we have achieved," the Kenyan president said.
He ordered the police to shoot at the rioters, aiming at their legs, in order to save their lives and sentence the perpetrators of the protests.
"Anyone who intends to burn down someone else's business or property should be shot in the leg, hospitalized, and then brought to court," Ruto said.
Earlier, on July 8, the BBC reported the deaths of 11 people and the arrest of 567 people during protests in Kenya. The Kenyan Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has accused police of using "excessive force" during the wave of protests.
