The US Embassy in Yemen announced the abduction of the crew of the Eternity C cargo ship by the Houthis.

The US Embassy in Yemen on Wednesday, July 9, reported the abduction of the crew of the Greek cargo ship Eternity C, which included a Russian citizen.

"The Houthis abducted several surviving crew members of the Eternity C ship. We demand their immediate and unconditional release," follows from the publication of the diplomatic mission on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the embassy's press service, the Houthis from the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement are also hindering rescue operations.

Earlier in the day, Ansar Allah spokesman Yahya Saria said that the movement claimed responsibility for the attack on Eternity C. He clarified that the strike was carried out with the help of an unmanned boat and six cruise and ballistic missiles. According to him, the ship was attacked in connection with ignoring the ban on activities in the port of Umm al-Rashrash, which is located in Palestine.

On board, among the crew members was a Russian citizen who was injured in the attack. The cargo ship sank after the impact.
