The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, was re-elected chairman of the Executive Council of the International Civil Defense Organization (IHO). This was reported on July 9 in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

It is specified that Kurenkov will hold the post of chairman of the IGO for two years. According to the head of the department, he plans to act in the interests of all member countries of the organization.

"I am confident that only together, through the search for compromises and joining forces, we will be able to help those in need more effectively and ensure a stable future for our people," said the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

According to the press service of the department, Russia has been acting as the chairman of the organization for the past two years. This phenomenon has been recorded for the first time in the more than 90-year history of the organization.

Earlier, on July 7, Kurenkov arrived in Baku to participate in the meeting of the IGO, as well as to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of a number of foreign countries. In particular, the Russian Emergencies Minister discussed the bilateral partnership with his Azerbaijani counterpart and thanked Baku for organizing the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran.
