The Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD) is developing a draft law that proposes to introduce an increased tax on vehicles after 15 years from the date of their release. Dealers also intend to ensure the introduction of mandatory inspection twice a year for such vehicles. This is reported by Autonews with reference to the president of the ROAD Alexey Podshchekoldin.

According to him, Russians usually use cars for 10-15 years or more. At the end of the service life, the state must support the disposal of old cars and get rid of old cars that have reached their end of life. The law plans to prescribe how the car should be serviced and how long it should be used.

Podshchekoldin said that the document is still being developed, consultations with lawyers are underway. The draft law is scheduled to be finalized by the end of July.

The day before, the ROAD noted that the share of passenger cars older than 10 years in the Russian fleet reached 72% (more than 39.75 million units). At the current rate of new car sales, in five years, 80% of the fleet will be models older than 10 years, while half of the cars will be older than 20 years, they predicted. According to the association, the average age of a car in Russia is now 16.5 years old.
