Karen Verdyan, accused of murdering a businessman in the village of Misailovo near Moscow, was sentenced to 11 years in prison in a high-security penal colony. This was reported on July 9 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the Vidnovsky City Court.

"Your Honor, I'm sorry that everything happened like this. There were just real threats to my life and my family. I'm sorry that this happened, I can't say anything more," said the defendant in the last word.

On July 7, the prosecution requested 14 years for him. Verdyan's lawyer, Mikhail Bagaev, in turn, petitioned for a more lenient sentence. According to him, there are no aggravating circumstances in the case.

The murder occurred on March 29 in a parking lot near an unoccupied building. The victim was a 54-year-old businessman who was shot by Verdyan. The defendant was caught on surveillance cameras as he got out of a white car near the crime scene. He was detained on the same day. A criminal case was opened into the incident under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Intentional infliction of death to another person") and Article 222 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal arms trafficking").
