Automated passport control booths have been installed at the Koltsovo International Airport in Yekaterinburg. Rinat Khalikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Airports of the Regions Management Company, told <url> on the sidelines of the Innoprom International Industrial Exhibition, which is taking place these days at Yekaterinburg Expo.

"Koltsovo will become the first regional airport to use automatic passport control booths," Khalikov said.

The introduced system allows you to cross the border without operator involvement. To do this, the passenger needs a biometric passport of series 75 and above.

The time to pass through passport control will be significantly reduced in this way. The biometrics passport verification process will take less than one minute.

The system was implemented as part of a large-scale project to modernize the checkpoint. At the end of March, the air harbor announced in its Telegram channel that it had received an act of readiness for the updated point, signed by an interdepartmental commission. The point's capacity will increase from 1.3 thousand to 2.2 thousand passengers per hour.

In 2024, Koltsovo's passenger traffic amounted to more than 8 million people, which is 9% more than a year earlier. This became an air harbor record. During the year, the airport handled 38 thousand flights, the number of passengers per day reached 30 thousand. Cargo turnover also increased by 15%, exceeding 14 thousand tons. Also in 2024, a self-check-in system was introduced in Koltsovo.
