The expert told the Russians about the danger of dacha insects to humans
Suburban areas pose a danger to humans due to insects that carry little-known but dangerous diseases. She told the Newspaper about this on July 7.Ru" Senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy of RTU MIREA Maria Zolotareva.
"Ticks remain one of the most threatening vectors of infections in central Russia. Their activity lasts from April to October, and bites can lead to infection with tick-borne encephalitis, borreliosis (Lyme disease) and other infections. Besides them, there are less obvious threats. For example, mosquitoes, especially near reservoirs, are capable of transmitting West Nile fever (the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions are endemic in the Russian Federation) and dirofilariasis. Although mass outbreaks of these diseases are rare, isolated cases are recorded annually, especially in the southern regions of the country," she said.
Zolotareva noted that if rodents or stray animals stay in a country house for a long time, fleas can persist that can carry Bartonella henselae, a bacterium that causes "cat scratch disease" (felinosis), and even plague pathogens in endemic areas. Midge bites (woodlice) are also a threat. So, in addition to possible allergic reactions, they can cause infectious diseases such as tularemia (Francisella tularensis) and Onchocerca volvulus (river blindness).
Cockroaches on their paws and body can carry pathogens of salmonellosis, dysentery and fungal infections. Due to the fact that products can be stored leaky in a country house, there is always a risk of infection. Wasps and hornets pose a danger to those who are allergic to their venom. This is due to the fact that wasps can sting repeatedly, and their bites cause allergic reactions, up to anaphylactic shock. Horsefly bites are painful and can cause secondary infections if the bite site is combed. They are also able to tolerate tularemia and anthrax after being bitten by sick animals.
"Moths and some species of butterflies are not dangerous to humans by themselves, but their caterpillars (for example, golden tail caterpillars) have poisonous hairs that can cause dermatitis and allergic reactions upon contact with the skin," the expert warned.
To reduce the risk of infection, it is necessary to regularly treat the suburban area with acaricidal agents, install mosquito nets and observe hygiene standards. If you are bitten by an insect, you should seek medical help, especially after an allergic reaction.
On July 4, internist Denis Prokofiev spoke about the main symptoms of this infection with anaplasmosis (a bacterial infection spread by ticks) and gave advice on first aid for insect bites. The disease can manifest itself in general weakness, fever, dizziness, nausea, or be asymptomatic.
