A schoolgirl drowned while swimming in the Amur River in the Khabarovsk Territory

In the Khabarovsk Territory, a 12-year-old schoolgirl drowned while swimming in the Amur River. This was reported on July 6 in the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

"On July 05 <...> there was another tragedy on the water. While swimming in a quarry near Bogachev Street in the city of Khabarovsk, two girls began to drown. Eyewitnesses managed to save one of them, the second one went under water," the message on the department's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that the children were unaccompanied at the facility, which was not equipped for swimming. The investigators examined the scene and questioned the witnesses.

Upon the incident, the prosecutor's office organized an inspection, the results of which will assess compliance with the law, as well as compliance with safety requirements at the water facility. A criminal case has been opened under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence").

On July 3, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Karelia reported that a seven-year-old girl drowned in Svyatozero near the village of the same name. Previously, the girl had left home the day before. A criminal case was opened.
