Bob Hartley, the Canadian former head coach of the Avangard hockey club, became the head of Lokomotiv. This was announced on July 5 in the press service of the Yaroslavl team.
"Famous Canadian coach Bob Hartley has signed a contract and will lead Lokomotiv in the upcoming season...> Hartley is, without a doubt, a coach who can give our team further progress," the club's website says.
Hartley led the Omsk Avangard from 2018 to 2022. The coach from Canada also led the National Hockey League (NHL) teams: The Colorado Avalanche, the Atlanta Thrashers and the Calgary Flames. Hartley has won the Stanley Cup, the Swiss champion title and the Gagarin Cup in 2021.
HC Lokomotiv announced on June 11 the resignation of the head coach of the team Igor Nikitin from his post. He has been in charge of the Yaroslavl club since September 2021 and last season, together with the team, won the FONBET championship of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the Gagarin Cup – 2025.
