In six months, the inhabitants of the Moscow Zoo had almost 200 cubs.
In the first half of the year, about 200 cubs were born in the Moscow Zoo, mostly rare and red-listed species. This was told by Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina.
According to her, the zoo has been replenished with Sichuan dolphins, Madagascar boa constrictors, a tenacious-tailed skink and an elastic turtle. The zoo also gave birth to baby cranes, a baby capybara, a baby lowland gorilla, five Humboldt penguins, and two alpacas.
"Now there are more than 15 thousand animals in the zoo, and the number of wards is constantly increasing. In addition to newborns, there are also those who are brought from other habitats. Since the beginning of the year alone, the capital's specialists have accepted over 100 of these animals," the deputy mayor noted.
The zoo has received, for example, curly-haired pelicans, loaves, specimens of Icelandic eggnog and vultures. The latter have not been on display for more than 50 years. Other newcomers include snakes, geckos and two sea hares.
It is not uncommon for rescued animals to enter the Moscow Zoo. So, in March, Hercules, a male cougar, settled here. He was taken from a Muscovite who had kept the predator in an apartment in the Kuntsevo area for several years.
Last fall, on the capital's portal mos.ru There is an opportunity to observe the zoo's inhabitants online. The cameras were installed in 21 enclosures: with pandas, manul, honey badgers, elephants, capybaras and other animals.
