Western countries are clouding the prospects for cooperation between Russia and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) with their politicized approach, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's first deputy permanent Representative to the World Organization, said on Friday, July 4.

He recalled that on July 11, the Russian side is scheduled to hold regular consultations with UNCTAD Secretary General Rebecca Greenspan on a memorandum on the normalization of exports of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. According to him, during the meetings, Russia and the United Nations will consider the prospects for further cooperation.

"While they (consultations. - Ed.) are still overshadowed by the politicized approaches of Western states to international trade and ensuring the food security of developing countries," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on May 29 that the memorandum between Russia and the United Nations on the grain deal would expire in July and could not be extended. According to him, the efforts of Moscow and UNCTAD on the memorandum did not lead to the desired impact.
