Protesters in Paris tore up the NATO flag at a demonstration
Demonstrators in Paris in support of France's withdrawal from NATO and against arms supplies to Ukraine tore up the flag of the North Atlantic Alliance during the event. Footage from the scene of the June 29 event is published by Izvestia.
The rally was organized by the founder of the Patriots party, Florian Philippot, who led a column of several hundred demonstrators. They gathered at the Palais Royal Square opposite the Louvre and, despite the hot day, marched through the city center.
"Long live France, long live peace! France should be completely independent. We need to leave NATO, leave the EU," Philippot chanted from the podium.
At the end of his speech, he tore up the NATO flag in front of the demonstrators and threw it to the protesters. They were standing below with posters saying "No to NATO", "Patriots for peace", "We don't want to die for Ukraine", "No to tanks and drones in Ukraine".
Earlier that day, on the sidelines of a demonstration in Paris, Philippot said that France needs to stop participating in other people's wars and "writing checks" to Ukraine, ruining its own coffers. He noted that this kind of assistance has become very difficult and problematic for the country. Philippot called for fighting against France's involvement in other people's conflicts.
