Moldova has banned 195 kickboxers from Russia and Belarus from entering the country.
Moldova has banned entry to its territory for 195 Russian and Belarusian kickboxers due to an alleged threat to national security. This was stated on June 29 in a letter from Oleg Ozerov, the Russian Ambassador to Moldova, sent to Batu Khasikov, Chairman of the Supreme Supervisory Board of the Russian Kickboxing Federation (FCF).
"On June 23, the Moldovan Interior Ministry reported on the non—admission to the country of 195 athletes who "pose increased risks to national security," mostly citizens of Russia and Belarus," the federation's press service quotes the text of the letter in its Telegram channel.
The ambassador also confirmed that Moldova had canceled the European Kickboxing Championship in Chisinau, which was scheduled to take place from June 22 to 27. The letter noted that this event "clearly contradicts public interests and democratic principles."
On June 22, the president of the International Kickboxing Federation (WKF), Friedrich Exenberg, apologized for the non-admission of Russian athletes to the European Championship in Chisinau. He noted that the event was announced as an international tournament, but the Moldovan authorities expressed their disagreement with its holding two days before the championship.
A day earlier, the head of the FKR, Vladimir Filatov, said that the European Kickboxing Championship in Moldova was canceled after the Russian national team was not allowed to compete. The tournament was scheduled to be held in Chisinau on June 23-28.
