The media reported that Xi Jinping missed the BRICS summit in Brazil
Chinese President Xi Jinping will skip the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. This was reported on June 25 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper, citing sources.
"Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the BRICS summit next week in Rio de Janeiro, which will be his first-ever absence from a meeting of leading emerging economies," the newspaper notes.
According to the publication, there are several reasons for this decision. First of all, Xi Jinping has already met twice with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Secondly, there was a problem with the Chinese leader's schedule.
Beijing has announced that the Chinese delegation to the BRICS summit will be led by Premier Li Qiang.
Earlier, on June 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Xi Jinping about the conflict in the Middle East. The parties condemned Israel's actions and spoke exclusively for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
