The UK has begun preparing the country for a foreign policy threat
The British authorities called for active preparations to protect themselves from the foreign policy threat on their territory. This was stated on June 24 in the new national security strategy of the country.
"We are entering a period when we are likely to face indirect and possibly direct confrontation with adversaries, increased strategic competition, including the growing importance of nuclear weapons in politics <...> Therefore, the UK must adapt its approach to national security in response to dramatic changes in the world," it said. in the document.
It says that there is allegedly a threat to the UK's security from Russia, China or Iran. The document also mentions the conflict in Ukraine.
"For the first time in many years, we must actively prepare for the fact that the territory of Great Britain may be under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario," one of the chapters of the document says.
The Cabinet of Ministers notes that important components for the implementation of the UK's national security strategy against alleged external threats are strengthening the economy to deter opponents, as well as close cooperation with NATO member countries.
"We live in an era of radical uncertainty and we must act flexibly, quickly and with a clear understanding of national interests," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on the occasion of the strategy's publication.
Earlier, on June 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin called NATO's statements about alleged attack plans a horror story. He noted that the state, given the growing geopolitical tensions, will continue to take measures aimed at strengthening the security of the Russian Federation and its allies, as well as the development of the Armed Forces.
