Russian judoka Inal Tasoev became a two-time world champion on Thursday, June 19, defeating Georgian representative Guram Tushishvili in Budapest.

Tasoev won the gold medal in the final bout in the over 100 kg weight category. Kim Min-jong from South Korea won the bronze medal, defeating Russian Tamerlan Bashaev.

According to Sport-Express, Tasoev became world champion for the second time in May 2023. Then the Russian lost to the representative of France, Teddy Riner, in the World Cup final, but the International Judo Federation (IJF) declared the referee's mistake in favor of the Frenchman. After that, it was decided to award gold to both athletes.

The World Judo Championships are taking place from 13 to 20 June in Budapest. By the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Russians can participate in competitions only in a neutral status.

On June 18, 23-year-old Russian Matvey Kanikovsky became the world judo champion in the weight category up to 100 kg. The athlete defeated the Japanese Dota Arai.
