- The State Duma reported requests to return the mandatory records of marriage and children in the passport
Deputies of the State Duma receive appeals from citizens asking them to return mandatory marriage and child certificates to their passports. This was stated on June 8 by Tatyana Butskaya, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood.
According to her, despite the desire to transfer personal data to digital format, the preservation of a paper passport implies the preservation of basic information about a person in it.
"Everything used to be clear, you take a person's passport, his whole life is there: he was born, he got married, he has one child, the second child. And now the passport is empty, they don't wear a ring on the ring finger <...> Therefore, there were wishes to duplicate this information in the passport," the deputy told TASS.
In February, it was reported that Russia may simplify the procedure for choosing a surname at the time of marriage. Such a bill was submitted to the State Duma on February 20 by Ksenia Goryacheva, a member of the New People party. According to the explanatory note to the draft law, it is proposed to allow the possibility of choosing a double surname (joining the spouse's surname to one's surname). as one of the spouses, and both.
