A rally is taking place in Madrid, Spain, against support for Ukraine and the rearmament of the European Union (EU). Footage of the demonstration on Saturday, June 7, is published by Izvestia.

According to correspondent Mikhail Blokhin, thousands of Spaniards rallied in the center of Madrid with the slogan "give peace with Russia."

"We came out to protest against the Spanish authorities spending the state budget, which no one needs, instead of developing medicine and education, which have been in deep decline in Spain for a long time," said one of the participants of the rally.

According to another participant of the rally, the protesters came out against the rearmament of the EU, for which the authorities are ready to spend "billions of euros to the detriment of the construction of new schools and hospitals."

"Moreover, the authorities are going to take money for this stupidest initiative from the Spanish pension fund," he added.

The protest march ended at the walls of the city government, attended by representatives of more than 30 different organizations in Spain.

On June 5, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte officially proposed to raise the level of military spending of the countries of the military alliance to 5% of their gross domestic product (GDP). The Secretary General also pointed out that nuclear deterrence remains the cornerstone of the Alliance's security.

On the same day, ABC newspaper reported that Spain remains the only NATO country to oppose the introduction of a defense spending target of 5% of GDP. As the newspaper noted, if Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez does not change his position, he may directly clash with US President Donald Trump, who is preparing to actively promote this initiative at the NATO summit in The Hague on June 24-26.
