A court in Moscow has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for blogger Areg Shchepikhin. This was announced on June 6 by the press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the capital.

"By a decision of the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow, the request of the preliminary investigation authorities to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of Shchepikhin Areg was satisfied," the courts' Telegram channel clarified.

According to the decree, Shchepikhin will stay in a pre-trial detention center for two months.

The incident with Shchepikhin at Yaroslavsky railway Station became known on June 3, when several people pinned him down, placed a car and drove away in an unknown direction. Later, six participants of the events were detained in connection with the incident. They may be prosecuted under Articles 126 of the Criminal Code ("Kidnapping") and Article 285 of the Criminal Code ("Abuse of official authority").

The day before, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened against Shchepikhin for inciting hatred.
