In the German city of Cologne, three aerial bombs from the Second World War were defused, which led to the evacuation of almost 20 thousand residents. People are starting to return to their homes. This was reported on June 4 by the radio station WDR.

"In Cologne, thousands of [evacuated] people can return to their homes — three bombs of the Second World War were successfully defused," the publication clarifies.

It is clarified that the process took longer than expected. This happened, as noted, due to problems with evacuation, which became the largest since the end of World War II.

During the operation, three bridges over the Rhine River were closed, which shut down railway and automobile traffic. Later it became known that the operation of the Cologne city railway station had been restored.

The Bild newspaper reported on June 3 on the evacuation of Cologne residents, which was announced in connection with the discovery of bombs. On June 4, Izvestia published footage of the evacuation beginning. It was noted that residents were placed in temporary accommodation facilities.
