The beauty industry in Russia is developing rapidly, but along with the growing demand, the number of unscrupulous specialists who provide dangerous procedures without appropriate education is also increasing. Anton Ivlev, a lawyer in the field of entrepreneurship and consumer protection, told Izvestia on June 5.

"Unqualified pseudocosmetologists often perform injection and hardware procedures, which leads to serious complications, litigation, and even death. The problem is compounded by the lack of control and misunderstanding on the part of customers who exactly has the right to provide such services," the expert explained.

The lawyer notes that the difference between a cosmetologist and an esthetician is significant, but many clients are unaware of this.

"A cosmetologist is a specialist with a higher medical education and a residency in dermatovenerology or cosmetology. Only he can perform botox injections, fillers, mesotherapy, laser procedures and deep peels. This requires a license for medical activity," he stressed.

An esthetician, in turn, works without a medical license and can only perform superficial procedures: cleansing, massages, and care masks.

"However, many cosmetics break boundaries by offering clients injections or laser treatments because they are more expensive. Fines are provided for such activities, and in severe cases, criminal liability," the specialist warned.

According to the expert, strict measures should be introduced: limiting advertising for pseudo-specialists and increasing fines. Cosmetology is a part of medicine, and as long as illegal "masters" remain unpunished, not only people's health suffers, but also the reputation of the entire industry.

Earlier, on May 28, Marina Gureeva, associate professor of the Department of Pediatric Diseases at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, a dermatovenerologist, told Izvestia that the occurrence of rosacea can be affected by sunburn, severe stress, prolonged exposure to high or low temperatures. A diet with the consumption of large amounts of hot food and drinks can also lead to the disease.
