Everything is excluded: Russians are more likely to organize holidays with children on their own

The vast majority of Russians organize holidays with children on their own, the booking services told Izvestia. Most of all, parents are worried about the long road and the children's habituation to a new place. The choice of a hotel also causes difficulties — many of them do not have suitable rooms or they are too expensive. Where Russians with children will go this summer and how to make family vacations comfortable — in the Izvestia article.
How parents plan trips with their children
The vast majority of Russians prefer to organize their own trips with children this year, the booking services told Izvestia.
For example, people independently choose an accommodation facility, assessing its location and the availability of children's infrastructure, the Ostrov service said.
"They note the importance of the quality of room cleaning and the availability of discounts and special offers for accommodation with children, they are guided by reviews about the place of accommodation left by other parents, pay attention to the variety of children's menus or the opportunity to cook on their own," the representatives of the service noted.
At the same time, family tourists consider long flights and relocations, as well as adaptation to a new routine and climate, to be the main difficulty in traveling with children. Choosing a suitable hotel or accommodation facility, organizing leisure activities and catering for children also causes difficulties, said Daria Kochetkova, Managing Director of the Ostrov Group of companies.
— If a family travels with one child, it is necessary to at least put an extra bed, if two children have two beds, and if it is a family with three children or more, the task is sometimes simply impossible. The family should either choose a higher room category, which is more expensive than the standard, or draw lots — who will share the room with whom," she stressed.
According to her, about half of the bookings made by tourists with children are for apartments and hotels without stars, as well as guest houses.
— This means that their cost is in the first place. As a rule, apartments, hotels without stars and guest houses can accommodate the whole family and there will be enough beds, you can cook a meal for a child at any time of the day, and not be tied to the meal hours in a classic hotel," she explained.
As a rule, in this case, the family also manages to save money, Daria Kochetkova added.
When choosing a hotel for holidays with children, tourists also pay attention to a comfortable gentle descent into the sea, added the head of the international projects "Fly.<url>" and Lyubov Voronina, Managing Director of the Let's Fly tour operator.
— Interesting animation for children and a children's club with babysitters are also important. The availability of children's infrastructure on the territory of the accommodation facility is also of great importance — playgrounds, children's pools and other entertainment," she said.
According to her, many families prefer an all-inclusive system with the possibility of using a children's table, which serves dishes adapted to the needs of the child.
When booking tickets, parents pay special attention to a convenient departure time. Thus, 68% of families choose morning or afternoon flights to reduce the burden on the child. Night flights are preferred only for long-distance routes, the press service of the Kupibilet ticket search and purchase service told Izvestia.
— The location of the seats in the cabin is equally important. Although starting in 2025, airlines are required to accommodate parents and children together, many prefer to book neighboring seats in advance, sometimes with an additional fee, they noted.
Additional services are also important: baby food, play sets and free carriage of strollers. For kids under five, short flights of three to four hours are optimal, while families with teenagers are considering options with transfers or longer stays in the sky.
What do tourists with children choose?
This year, tourists with children prefer beach holidays and outdoor activities, including those by rivers and lakes. Less often they choose sightseeing tourism, health resorts, and all-season ski resorts.
This summer, tourists with children account for every fourth planned trip, according to Ostrovok data. By the beginning of the summer season, the share of family trips had almost doubled compared to the annual average of 13%.
The Krasnodar Territory (Sochi, Sirius, Gelendzhik) was named among the popular destinations in the country, while Turkey and Georgia (Batumi) were named abroad.
At the same time, according to the "Fly.<url>", the level of demand for traveling with children during the summer season is at the level of last year. Domestic trips account for 42% of all bookings with children. Egypt, Abkhazia, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Tunisia, and the Maldives are also popular.
— We record an increase in demand for tours to Vietnam — by 9.7 times, and to China — by 4.1 times. As well as a significant increase in the volume of bookings for tours to Tunisia relative to single applications from the previous year," they noted.
The average bill for travel with children during the summer season to Thailand decreased by 9.6%, to 185.6 thousand rubles, and to Vietnam by 1.7%, to 213.1 thousand rubles.
Internally, they choose Crimea, Kaliningrad and Moscow regions, Dagestan.
The share of families with children in the total volume of ticket bookings traditionally grows during the summer months. On average, they make up about 16-17% of the total number of passengers per year. However, in June this figure increases to 19%, and in July it reaches 27%, the press service of the Kupibilet service noted.
Only one in five children will go on a family trip this summer, according to a joint survey conducted by Sberbank Insurance and Rambler & Co. Every fourth child will go to visit close relatives in the village or in another city in the summer. Only 11% of children will go to a children's camp. And a third of the children will spend their summer holidays at home.
When sending children on independent trips, parents most often worry that there is a sufficient level of security and control in the vacation spot. In addition, parents worry that the child will be injured or ill, and that children on vacation will fall into bad company and return with bad habits. Other parental fears include whether the child will be able to adapt to a new team, whether he will find friends, and whether he will lose his phone, money, or other valuables.
How to make your vacation safe
It is important for parents to properly assemble a package of documents before traveling with their child, lawyer Lilia Shiryaeva reminded Izvestia. First of all, you need to make sure that all the information is correct in the tickets.
"The mandatory set of documents that a person accompanying a child on vacation must have includes a birth certificate, a medical insurance policy, and a child's SNILS," the lawyer noted. — Adults should also have their passports with them. Just in case, you can take the parents' marriage certificate, the parents' health insurance policies, and the parents' SNILS.
The originals of the documents must be with you. The lawyer also recommended taking out medical insurance outside the scope of the compulsory medical insurance policy.
— If the child is not traveling with his parents, then it is additionally necessary to issue a power of attorney from the parents to the accompanying person. In practice, these escorts are often grandmothers, older sisters, and sports coaches," added Lilia Shiryaeva.
If a child travels abroad with one of the parents, a notarized power of attorney from the other parent is also required. In addition, the child's birth certificate must have a mark confirming the presence of Russian citizenship and the seal of the authority that affixed this mark.
— The person accompanying the child should charmingly know what vaccinations he has been given, whether he is allergic to food or medicines, chronic diseases, — the lawyer believes.
A child on vacation should know the phone number of his parents and accompanying persons, as well as the name of the hotel, and understand the meeting place if he suddenly gets lost. And parents should have a full-length photo of the child without a headdress in their phone.
When organizing holidays with children, especially with young ones, it is worth remembering that parents should also be able to relax, said psychologist Natalia Naumova. Therefore, she recommended that you think in advance about the possibility of spending time without a child: choose a hotel with animation, take your grandmother with you, or arrange with a babysitter in advance.
— It is important to discuss with older children what they want, what their interests and expectations of recreation are. And then we can come up with a plan together on how to relax so that everyone enjoys it," she recommended.
During the holidays, resentments and communication difficulties often manifest themselves, which are not so noticeable in everyday life, the psychologist emphasized. Therefore, if unsolvable contradictions have already appeared at the preparation stage, it is better to contact a specialist, she concluded.
