Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko on Tuesday, May 27, laid flowers at the monument to Peter the Great on St. Petersburg's Senate Square in honor of the 322nd anniversary of the city. Footage from the scene is published by Izvestia.
The Chairman of the Federation Council laid red roses at the monument. Besides her, the event was also attended by Alexander Gutsan, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District, Anna Tsivileva, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, deputies of the State Duma and the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, representatives of religious denominations and honorary citizens of the city.
At the end of the ceremony, the honor guard company marched along Admiralteysky Embankment, accompanied by the orchestra of the Leningrad Military District.
On May 27, St. Petersburg celebrates 322 years since its foundation. On this day in 1703, Peter the Great founded the Peter and Paul Fortress, giving the city its name in honor of St. Peter the Apostle.
