Olympic champion in high jump Lasitskene suspended her career
Olympic high jump champion Maria Lasitskene announced on May 27 that she was suspending her sports career indefinitely.
According to her, the decision is related to psychological fatigue and lack of motivation. She noted that she was not sure about returning to the competition and was currently recovering according to an individual program.
"Track and field athletes have been in a suspended position for ten years, and personally I can no longer find motivation to perform only at domestic competitions," RIA Novosti quoted Lasitskene as saying.
Her last tournament was the New Height, which took place on August 31, 2024 in the Cool Kabardino-Balkaria.
On March 25, it was reported that the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) upheld the decision to suspend Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. At the moment, according to the head of World Athletics, athletes from Russia and Belarus remain in the international testing pool.
