The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned about a new fraud scheme with likes in Telegram

Scammers have started using a new deception scheme, offering to earn likes through the Telegram messenger. On May 27, the Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia) warned about this.

According to the agency, the attackers send voice messages posing as employees of large marketplaces. Potential victims are offered simple tasks, promising payment. At the initial stage, scammers do transfer small amounts to gain trust.

"Having gained trust, a citizen will be required to "buy back the goods", purchase "premium accounts" or invest under any other pretext to increase income," the Interior Ministry explained.

In addition, victims may be persuaded to install malicious software disguised as work applications, which can lead to personal data leakage and financial losses. The Interior Ministry urged citizens to be careful not to follow questionable links.

On May 23, it was reported that fraudsters continue to create fake Telegram bots of Russian Post and other delivery companies in order to steal data. The attackers call the victims and report a "problem with the package." After that, they offer to log in via a special Telegram bot under the Russian Post logo to "fix the error."
