Punishment for parents' failure to fulfill their obligations to maintain and educate minors will be toughened. Such amendments were approved on May 26 by the government commission for legislative activity, Izvestiya's sources in the government said. The document is at the editorial board's disposal.

Vladimir Gruzdev, chairman of the board of the Russian Bar Association, clarified that the amendments concern an increase in the fine for parents' failure to fulfill their obligations to maintain and raise minors.

"Now the fine for non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment by parents or other legal representatives of minors of their obligations to maintain, bring up, educate, protect the rights and interests of minors is from 100 to 500 rubles," he said.

The amount of the fine under this article has not changed since 2007, Gruzdev recalled.

The amendments propose to establish a fine for parents' failure to fulfill their responsibilities for the maintenance and upbringing of minors in the amount of Br500 to Br2 thousand.
