The media learned about the US call to postpone Israel's full-scale operation in Gaza
The United States has asked Israel to delay a large-scale operation in the Gaza Strip amid negotiations on a deal to free the hostages, The Jerusalem Post reports, citing sources.
It is noted that the appeal included two key components: postponing a full-scale operation in Gaza and ensuring the possibility of continuing negotiations in parallel with the military operation.
Israeli officials have stated that the IDF is launching a full-scale operation and will not withdraw from areas where it has already entered, even within the framework of a possible agreement.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel is ready for a temporary ceasefire in order to return the hostages.
It is clarified that on May 22, Israel decided to recall its delegation, which took part in indirect talks with representatives of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas in the capital of Qatar, Doha.
On May 20, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir, announced that the IDF was expanding its military operation in the Gaza Strip, without excluding the possibility of adjusting its actions if an agreement was reached on the release of hostages.
