Merkel warned of the destruction of Europe due to the fight against illegal migration

The unilateral measures of the current German government to combat illegal migration will lead to the destruction of Europe. This was announced on May 22 by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"I do not believe that we will be able to finally overcome illegal migration on the German-Austrian or German-Polish border," Der Spiegel newspaper quoted her as saying.

Merkel clarified that she had always relied on European solutions. According to her, unilateral steps by individual countries can cost the Schengen Agreement and freedom of movement in European countries.

The former German chancellor called for finding solutions within the framework of the European Union, because "otherwise we may witness the destruction of Europe." She stressed that she did not want to witness the collapse of the continent.

On May 7, the Bild newspaper reported that migrants were banned from entering all German land borders, even if they applied for asylum. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt gave an oral order to the Federal Police Department of Germany to strengthen border control and increase refusals when trying to enter the country.
