Russians assessed the influence of relatives on the choice of profession
One in ten Russians (12%) said that relatives and close people made the decision about their future profession for them. This is evidenced by the research data of the platform. hh.ru (Izvestia has it).
According to the survey results, 22% of Russians decided on a future career together with their relatives, and 66% chose a profession and education independently.
The younger the respondents were, the more often they indicated that they made their own choice: 84% of those surveyed under the age of 18, and 65% of those aged 35-44.
Respondents from agriculture (85%) and extractive industries (75%) were the most independent in deciding on a profession. Respondents from the oil and gas sector (41%), housing and communal services (30%), energy (30%) and finance (29%) consulted with their relatives more often than others about their careers and education.
Russians generally get a positive reaction from relatives when they tell them what profession or education they have chosen. This was stated by 53% of the respondents. 30% of the study participants responded neutrally to their relatives, while only 2% received negative feedback.
In addition, 42% of respondents noted that their family supported them morally in getting an education. Another 20% reported that their relatives had paid for their education, and 7% for additional training or courses. 13% were looking for a job with their parents or through friends, 4% were writing resumes together with their loved ones. 3% of respondents had cases when relatives communicated with potential employers for them, in 1% relatives helped to complete test tasks.
Kristina Ivanenko, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), told on May 20 how parents can help a student decide on a future profession. The specialist noted that parents should not take the position of an expert, but rather become a mentor for the child and together with him look for ways to solve the problem.
