Medinsky explained the reason for the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine in 1954
The transfer of Crimea to Ukraine in 1954 took place because Nikita Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, and a group of interested parties needed the votes of the Ukrainian leaders in the party to retain power. This was announced on Friday, May 16, by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
"Khrushchev is hanging by a thread, he needs every vote, especially the Ukrainian authorities, he needs these votes in the Central Committee. All this was explained by the fact that there is water coming from Ukraine, some historical ties, a single national economic complex - it's all nonsense," he said on the TV channel "Solovyov.Live».
As Medinsky pointed out, the 300th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Rada became a suitable reason for the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine. Such a redistribution was legitimate within the country, but in the case of Crimea, all decisions were made by the central authorities, the politician concluded.
On April 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the international recognition of Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR, LPR), Kherson and Zaporizhia regions as Russian territories an imperative in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
