The European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom are experiencing difficulties in negotiating a partnership agreement in the field of defense and security, due to the increasing demands of the British side. This was reported on May 14 by the Financial Times newspaper, citing sources.

"The negotiations are going worse than a week ago. The closer we get to the deadline, the more the British demand. This is an unproductive dynamic," the article says.

It is noted that the agreement covers the areas of fisheries, youth and student migration, as well as new terms of trade agreements on food.

According to the newspaper, Britain does not support the EU's proposal to temporarily limit the food trade deal in order to provide "certainty" for its producers. In addition, London is calling for strict time limits and limits on the number of participants in the youth mobility program.

It is specified that the security agreement will be signed during the UK-EU summit, which will be held on May 19 in London.

On May 11, the British edition of The Sunday Times reported that the EU and the UK plan to present a joint defense and security pact, under which London can become part of European defense policy. At the same time, the need is caused by the "greatest threat in the last generation," allegedly coming from Russia.
