The winners of the International Chemistry Olympiad returned to Moscow from Brazil
Russian schoolchildren who won the International Mendeleev Olympiad in Brazil arrived at Moscow Domodedovo Airport to a standing ovation. Footage of their return on May 14 was shared by Izvestia.
"I am very pleased with my result and, in general, how the Olympics went. There weren't many difficulties in Brazil itself. The main difficulty was to fly there and back for 20 hours," said Olympic gold medalist Vladimir Elistratov.
The participants competed in three rounds, where they demonstrated theoretical knowledge and applied practical skills. 10 Russian schoolchildren took part in the competition.
According to the head of the chemistry team, Elena Eremina, the competition in a fair fight was made up of students from other countries, including China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, who sent their best students.
She also added that she was satisfied with the results of the Olympics.
"We are very pleased with the results, it turned out more than we could even dream of. <...> The competition is strong, very strong," said Eremina.
On May 2, the press service of the Russian government announced the victory of all 10 participants of the Russian team at the 59th International Mendeleev Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Chemistry. They won gold medals. The Russian government clarified that this year's international intellectual competition brought together representatives from about 40 countries.
