Some Israeli military officials have acknowledged that the Palestinians are at risk of mass starvation as a result of the blockade of the Gaza Strip and the suspension of humanitarian aid. This was reported on May 13 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources in Israel.

The publication recalled that for several months Tel Aviv has denied the possibility of famine, posing a serious threat to the lives of civilians.

Now, Israeli officers responsible for analyzing the humanitarian situation in Gaza have warned their commanders that there is a shortage of food to meet even the most basic nutritional needs.

According to the newspaper's sources, immediate action must be taken to quickly restore supplies in order to prevent famine.

The day before, on May 12, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that about 500,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from extreme food shortages resulting from the suspension of humanitarian aid and the blockade by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). 57 children have died of starvation since March 2.
