An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred in Chukotka
An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded in Chukotka. This was announced on May 12 by the Kamchatka Branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
The tremors were recorded at 21:49 UTC (00:49 Moscow time on May 12), 647 km from the administrative center of the Penzhinsky district, the village of Kamenskoye, with a population of 630 people. The seismic event was located at a depth of 15 km.
No damage or casualties were reported.
On May 11, scientists from the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences recorded a magnitude 5.2 earthquake 39 km from Severo-Kurilsk in Kamchatka. It was reported that the tremors occurred at a depth of 144 km.
